Whoa……..that was close!

This hot air balloon came very close the the house last night. DSCF8833.jpg

This is how far away it was when we noticed it.  It went right over the house, and we thought it might hit the house…..yikes!!  It was fine and we were able to watch it sail so beautifully over the house on a gorgeous Summer day.   ( i guess i should say it floated not sailed…) If you want to see a video it is on Facebook.

This Toad entertained Beatles for a bit on the porch.  I think he was afraid of it, honestly.  Below is Zach’s great photo of the beautiful ugly one.   And, why yes, I am wearing gloves to hold him.   Salmonella and warts and all that…you know me!hornytoad.jpg

There was some knitting this weekend amid the balloons, toads and cleaning the house.   Yes, I had to clean all the wood floors.  When the humidity finally dropped, I took advantage of the dew point and washed all the wood floors. concertknitting.jpeg

And there was knitting.  We went to an outdoor concert (Dennis DeYoung and music of Styx) and I had to bring some knitting.  Good music.  The younger guitarists had a ton of energy and balanced the very gray Dennis.  Above is my go to sock in progress.  There was work , too, on my log cabin shawl, and now I’m thinking I want to change it to something else……..So we will say I practiced with the yarn.  It is lovely to knit with koigu.   Great spring to it.

I’m off to the barn!  Then friends are taking us on their boat this afternoon.  We live for this weather.  Haha Winter, we survived and I think we are thriving.  (Despite the rib injury that Fireman is still gingerly nursing)!

  1. I would love to have a ride in a hot air balloon – except that I don’t do heights very well lol. Was that toad really pinkish or are my eyes going bad? Ha! My mama taught me to knit and crochet when I was very young… I’ve been considering taking up one or the other again, but can’t decide which. Blessings! ♥

  2. They say toads are a sign that your environment is healthy. I wonder if that’s true.

    I also wonder who “They” are…! 😉

  3. What a serendipitous event to have a big hot air balloon float over so low to your house. The photo is magnificent!~ I must have missed how fireman hurt his ribs.. sorry to hear it happened. ((hugs)), Teresa 🙂

  4. I think hot air balloons are wonderful and I’ve always wanted to ride in one, which makes no sense because I’m terrified of heights! How exciting to have one so close.
I remember chasing toads around when I was growing up in Iowa. For some reason I don’t see them out here in Washington.
Great looking socks. It’s nice knowing that my friends take their knitting with them everywhere too.
I’ve been praying for Fireman’s ribs. I hope he’s feeling much better now.
    Blessings, Betsy

  5. Oh boy, what a scare for you guys; glad it didn’t hit the house. I do not trust hot air balloons. I don’t mind seeing and watching them but I will not ride in one. I have yet to see a toad in our area.

  6. We frequently have hot air balloons pass over our house. Sometimes they are close enough that they yell down to us from their balloon as they pass by! But once . . . one had to land in the street just in front of our house! Now THAT was exciting for the whole neighborhood!!! 🙂

  7. I haven’t seen an hot air balloon in a long time! What fun! Have fun on the boat and don’t get sunburned!

  8. Always a fan of Styx! We never seen frogs or toads in the yard; wonder if The PO’M eats ’em? Hot air balloons are pretty cool, but I’ll never go up in one…too scared of heights!

  9. Balloons and toads – quite the different views. All fun! Glad your weather is cooperating with pleasant temperatures. We’re so cool here I’m sitting with a blanket over my feet (refuse to wear socks in the summer) and a hot rice bag at my back!

  10. Oh, cool balloon!! I have always wanted to do that. Not almost hit a house, but soar above the ground. 😉

Knitting looks good, toad is ugly. At least they eat bugs!
