Let’s Have Some Q and A? Shall We?

Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder in a commercial : Basketball players love their pets.  This was an ad for the Secret Life of Pets.

1.

*What’s your favorite Pet movie?

0-4.jpeg

I believe these are Nintendo Cookies.  But I am not certain. I have never played a video game.  Well , that’s  not entirely true.  I used to play Frogger for very short periods of time.   Very short, like 2 minutes while my kids left it to me, while they ran to get a snack.  Frogger is just a frog trying to cross traffic and not get hit.

2.

*Have you, do you play video games?

3. Discussing air travel with a friend recently, made me think about this question.

Do you like take off and landings?  Do you enjoy the cruising time on a plane?

4. Mason Dixon recently asked, DO you prefer fair isle or Duplicate stitch? So I’ll ask that of you as well.  Which do you prefer?

5. Did you see the SNL skit last weekend about women who hate to shop for clothing?  It was spot on!  Do you like to shop for clothing?  Google it: The Shopping Experience for People Who Hate Shopping….

6. Some people love those interchangeable needles.  Do you?

7. Have you ever called the Fire Department?

8. Do you know anyone who had a home birth?  ( how random is this? at least the question is not did you call the fire department during your home birth.right?)

9. Boiled egg, Cadbury Egg, or Marshmallow Egg?

10. When was the last time you rode on a bus?

THat’s it . See you in the comments!

  1. 1. What’s your favorite Pet movie? Milo & Otis

    2. Have you, do you play video games? I played video games in my younger days. On a week-long business trip to Las Vegas in the early ’80s I spent many quarters getting VERY good at Ms. PacMan. In the early ’90s I had a GameBoy (when I could pry it out of my boys’ hands). Those boys had a Nintendo, and I loved playing The Legend of Zelda. In fact, I used to daydream about being retired so I could play video games all day. (Somehow retirement has worked out rather differently.)

    3. Do you like take off and landings? Do you enjoy the cruising time on a plane? Takeoffs are fine. Landings are statistically more dangerous, but I don’t really worry about them. Cruising time is perfect for knitting and an audiobook.

    4. Do you prefer fair isle or Duplicate stitch? Neither.

    5. Did you see the SNL skit last weekend about women who hate to shop for clothing? Do you like to shop for clothing? I hate to shop, period, mainly because it requires standing and walking for extended periods. My back will not allow that. I nearly all my clothes shopping online — L.L. Bean, Lands End if LLB doesn’t have what I am looking for, very occasionally Roaman’s.

    6. Some people love those interchangeable needles. Do you? Absolutely! I have four sets.

    7. Have you ever called the Fire Department? I called 911 the time Smokey went through ice on our lake in his effort to rescue Lucy The Intrepid But Not Overly Smart Dog and I was in a tiny sailboat shell trying to rescue him and neither of us could get back to shore. (See my 3/15/2015 post for the full story.)

    8. Do you know anyone who had a home birth? Nope, even though I know a couple midwives.

    9. Boiled egg, Cadbury Egg, or Marshmallow Egg? Boiled, please, and keep that da*ned marshmallow away from me!

    10. When was the last time you rode on a bus? If we don’t count the airport shuttle that delivers people to the car rental place, it was probably 2013. That was the last year I worked (I think. How quickly these things fade from memory.), and I often took the bus downtown to get to the office.

    2. Have you, do you play video games?
    A. I play Bejeweled online.

3.Do you like take off and landings? Do you enjoy the cruising time on a plane?
    A. I prefer the take-offs as I don’t care for bumpy landings. I don’t mind the cruising but would prefer a short flight.

4.DO you prefer fair isle or Duplicate stitch?
    A. Fair Isle as I don’t know what Duplicate stitch is.

5.Do you like to shop for clothing?
    A. Nope.

    6. Some people love those interchangeable needles. Do you?
    A. I just don’t like circular needles in any form.

    A. No.. my alarm system did though.

    8. Do you know anyone who had a home birth?
    A. Yes.

    9. Boiled egg, Cadbury Egg, or Marshmallow Egg?
    A. Cadbury Egg.. I love chocolate.

    10. When was the last time you rode on a bus?
    A. A few years back for a tour of New Orleans.. it was great.

  3. I’m picking the video game question! My daughter has a degree in video game design (it’s actually called interactive media and game development). She loved telling her professors that she is a third generation video game player and she owns the video games (Atari, Game Boy and a couple of others) that her mother and grandparents played. We have Frogger but River Raid was our favorite:)

  4. 1. I don’t like pet movies. Lassie ruined me when I was a kid. If an animal is in a movie I just know it’s going to get hurt so I turn it off. I am a sissy.
    2. No video games for me. They only time I tried I was terrible. My mother loved them.
    3. Don’t fly. Won’t fly. Grew up near an airport and that’s all I’m saying.
    4. Love, love, love fair isle. Probably my favorite of all knitting techniques.
    5. That skit made me mad. It was supposed to be Ann Taylor and I was just in Ann Taylor and it was NOT Ann Taylor. It was a store called Vince that they were making fun of. It was the weirdest shop I’ve ever been in. I even blogged about it. They have only blue and gray clothes and hardly anything on the rack. It was like being in someone’s really boring closet. It was so weird. Daughter bought a $300 dress there.
    6. I use them all the time but you do have to tighten them every time you use them.
    7. For Daddio, all the time. They were always so nice.
    8. Daughter’s best friend had all four of her babies at home. She’s afraid of hospitals.
    9. Marshmallow but they are so hard to find here anymore.
10.I was a teacher so I had to ride all the time on field trips. HATED IT.
    Happy Wednesday!

  5. 1.What’s your favorite Pet movie?
I can’t remember even watching one!
    2. Have you, do you play video games?
Our family plays old timey Wii Bowling for kicks at Christmas.
3.Do you like take off and landings? Do you enjoy the cruising time on a plane?
I hate flying now: all of it is uncomfortable and an imposition.
4.DO you prefer fair isle or Duplicate stitch?
    I’ve not done either one–yet.
5.Do you like to shop for clothing?
I have to be in the mood to shop for clothes, and I’m usually not.
    6. Some people love those interchangeable needles. Do you?
Yes! I’ve never had a problem with them.
    7. Have you ever called the Fire Department?
Yes. Our doorbell caught fire inside the wall.
    8. Do you know anyone who had a home birth?
No, nor anyone who wanted to.
    9. Boiled egg, Cadbury Egg, or Marshmallow Egg?
Marshmallow. I’m obsessed with all things Marshmallow!
    10. When was the last time you rode on a bus?
Ages and ages ago…to an Obama rally in Cleveland!

  6. Well I left a comment and it disappeared. I’m going to try again, so if the other one appears and my answers seem completely different it’s because I wrote them at different times! Ha!
    1. Animal movies always make me cry too, but I remember watching Lassie as a child and enjoying it.
    2. I have never really played video games but I have watched my grandchildren play Angry Birds and fortnight. Does that count?
    3. I love flying. I love the take offs and landings and I love the cruising part, especially if I’m in a window seat and we’re flying over the north pole. Although I have to make myself not think about crashing in all of that snow and ice. What I don’t like about flying is all of the security hassle now. It’s taking away all the fun.
    4. I don’t do either but I would love to knit fair isle correctly. I have done a few projects in fair isle but have not been happy with the way they turned out.
    5. I haven’t watched SNL in years.
    6. I love my Knitpicks and my Hiya Hiya interchangeables. I use them all of the time and love that they’re so versatile. Especially if you cast on tightly. You can use use a bigger needle on one end while casting on and then switch it out to the regular size. I do use a lot of fixed needles too though.
    7. I have never called them but I houseguest did once for her husband whose blood sugar dropped drastically. The firefighters came and were going through my kitchen cabinets looking for Karo syrup. I kept telling them I didn’t have any. They finally settled for making him a peanut butter sandwich and juice. They did end up transporting him to the hospital where he was admitted for almost a week. Wonderful people to have around in emergencies, that’s for sure!
    8. I have never personally known anyone who had a homebirth. Since I had all three C-sections it wasn’t an option. Ha! I know everyone needs to make up their own mind, but it seems silly to take chances. As someone who volunteered in a hospital nursery for a while, I saw so many results from unexpected complications that I just don’t understand why anyone would take those chances. That’s just me though.
    9. Cadberry and marshmallow egg definitely. The only way I like hard-boiled eggs is in deviled eggs.
    10. A full-size bus would have been when I was in Japan last time a few years ago. Otherwise the airport shuttle bus last year. Although I did ride in a motorhome last week and it’s like a big bus.
    That was fun Kathy. Thanks!
    Blessings, Betsy

  7. Good Morning Kathy! I survived my nulear stress test. Just got home from the hospital and I’ll recover by answering your questions. 🙂

    1. I, too, always cry at pet movies so I don’t watch them very much. I used to watch Lassie year ago though.
2.I don’t think I’ve ever played a video game although I have watched my grandkids play “Angry Birds” and “Fortnight”
    3. I LOVE take-offs and landings and I like crusing too, especially if I can see out the window. I love flying over the north pole and seeing all of the snow and ice. Although it terrifies me if I let myself think about crashing in that wilderness.
    4. I don’t like either but I would love to learn fair isle.
    5. I haven’t watched SNL in years.
    6. I have both Knit Picks Harmony and Hiya Hiya interchangables. I do like them both but use a lot of fixed needles too.
    7. I haven’t but a guest at our house had to call them because her husbands blood sugar dropped drastically. Apparently his insulin pump had malfunctioned. The firefighters were all going through my kitchen cabinets looking for KARO syrup even though I told them I didn’t have any. They finally made him a peanut butter sandwich and orange juice! Super nice guys. Good to have around in an emergency for sure. BTW, they still transported Kevin the to hospital and he was admitted for almost a week!
    8. Not personally.
9.Cabury,or Marshmallow egg. I only like hardboiled eggs when made into deviled eggs.
    10. Does a motor home count? They are like a bus. I was in one last week. But a regular bus has been a couple of years, when I was in Japan last time.
That was fun! Thanks Kathy. Now I’m all rested up and will go vacuum the bedrooms. 🙂
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. Pet movies: “Prancer,” “Babe.”
Video games: Nope. I’ve watched my children play probably thousands of hours, though.
Flying: I don’t like take-offs. (The planet falling away from me sends my heart into my stomach.) Cruising and landing are fine.
I’ve never tried Fair Isle, but have tried Duplicate Stitch and failed miserably.
Clothes shopping: HATE IT. If I must buy something, I do it without trying it on. All those years of trying on the clothes my mother made for me turned me totally off of that.
Interchangeable needles: They’re good. I don’t use them very much, but like them when I do.
    Called the Fire Department: Yes.
    Home birth? No.
Eggs: CADBURY. Can’t stand marshmallow eggs, can only eat boiled ones in egg salad, tuna salad, etc.
Last rode on a bus: 30+ years ago, UGA campus bus.

  9. Hi Kathy B!

    1. Like Val, animal movies always make me cry. How about The Incredible Journey?
    2. Nope, no video games here.
    3. I like the cruising time best, but don’t really mind take offs and landings.
    4. Fair Isle for sure – and I think it looks nicer than duplicate stitch.
    5. I’m in bed and asleep before SNL comes on – lol. Plus, in more recent years when I have seen it I think it’s been very lame. My husband, though, says that it has improved a lot recently.
    6. No interchangeables for me – I’ve tried, but they come undone and also the yarn always snags at the joins no matter how smooth they are supposed to be.
    7. Yup I’ve called the FD (fire in my oven).
    8. I do know of someone (thru blogging) who had a home birth. I’m glad I was at the hospital though (given my age at the time…and the availability of drugs – lol).
    9. I’ll take all 3 eggs please.
    10. Can’t remember when I last rode a bus – it’s been years and years.

  10. Hooch is one of my favorites. Remember PacMan? It was a fun game from my college years. Take-offs are awesome! I love and use my Knit Picks interchangeable needles all the time. Cadbury Caramel eggs are heavenly! I allow myself one each year.

  11. 1. I don’t have a favorite pet movie but I have fond memories of Lassie, Benji, Beethoven, and Air Bud.
    2. I’ve played video games in the past and I have games on my phone but I’m over them.
    3. I’m fine w/take offs and landings.
    4. Fair Isle for sure. I think it’s fun as it’s like a puzzle being put together in yarn. The trick is to keep the fabric on the right needle laid out flat so your floats won’t be too tight.
    5. No; don’t have regular TV. I do watch SNL clips on Youtube sometimes. Shopping can be a chore for me b/c I have to try on clothes in person; I don’t buy online anymore and I hardly buy clothes b/c I want to make them myself.
    6. I love my Chiaogoo INterchangable set! I do check once in a while if they’re loose.
    7. Yes when I heard my great aunt fall upstairs late at night when I was living in the apartment below her and when the tween was 15-16 months old and twice w/thin 24 hours or less.
    8. No. The hospital was fine for me and my homies.
    9. I like all although I’ve probably had a Cadbury once.
    10. Probably for a field trip in SF when the kids were in 5th & 2nd grade or for a SF Giants game.

  12. 1.What’s your favorite Pet movie?
I try not to watch pet movies. They always make me cry.
    2. Have you, do you play video games?
I used to play a lot. When I was a kid, almost my whole family (grandparents too) played Nintendo. Every once in a while, I’ll get nostalgic and play something. Oh… I do play games on my phone… so I guess that counts too.
    3. Discussing air travel with a friend recently, made me think about this question. Do you like take off and landings? Do you enjoy the cruising time on a plane?
I love being on a plane – take off, cruising and watching out the window, and landing. What I don’t like is all the rigamorole you have to go through at the airport (in and out), or how tight and uncomfortable the plane seats are.
    4. Mason Dixon recently asked, DO you prefer fair isle or Duplicate stitch? So I’ll ask that of you as well. Which do you prefer?
Fair isle. I’m not very good at duplicate stitch.
    5. Did you see the SNL skit last weekend about women who hate to shop for clothing? It was spot on! Do you like to shop for clothing? Google it: The Shopping Experience for People Who Hate Shopping….
I adore shopping for clothing. However, I do most of it online now.
    6. Some people love those interchangeable needles. Do you?
No. They come apart at the most inconvenient time. Plus, I usually have multiple projects, so I’d need multiple cords. And I have a tendency to lose things… losing one needle tip make the set useless… and you can’t buy just one replacement.
    7. Have you ever called the Fire Department?
I had to think about this one… I don’t think I have. I’ve witnessed some fires, but someone else has always called. I have called 911 – but that was for an aggressive driver on the highway.
    8. Do you know anyone who had a home birth? ( how random is this? at least the question is not did you call the fire department during your home birth.right?)
My best friend had a home birth for her third.
    9. Boiled egg, Cadbury Egg, or Marshmallow Egg?
    Cadbury, baby!
    10. When was the last time you rode on a bus?
August… I think. When I went to the festival in the city.

2.I used to play video games a lot, now it’s just occasional. I love farming games and Final Fantasy 8.

    3. I dislike pretty much the whole flying experience. It’s amazing to see the landscape spread out when you’re up in the air, but aside from that I’m just a big ball of anxiety.

    4. Pass – I’ve never tried either technique.

    5. Nah, shopping for anything is a chore for me.

    6. My Knitpro Symfonie interchangeable needles are my favourite favourite to knit with. Total convert over here.

    7. Thankfully no

    8. Nope

    9. Marshmallow! They’re my favourite

    10. Probably last October on a trip to my favourite little Scottish island, Cumbrae. It’s the only time I’m willing to use the bus as even I can’t get lost on a little 10-mile island!

  14. Kathy B. here. My answers:

*Favorite Pet Movie: As a kid I loved Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Snotty little rich kid played by Elizabeth Taylor (absolutely pretty ,pretty, pretty then) who won’t like a dog she’s given after her favorite dog dies.

*So I already told you I’ve played Frogger. 🙂 No games in recent years, that would just take away Knit time.

*I don’t love any of it. But when I’m flying I try very hard not to think about being on the ground looking up into the sky thinking, all those people are just sitting in chairs a million miles into the sky……

*Fair isle can put me into a trance. But, I do struggle with keeping my tension even, and I am not thrilled to follow charts. So I prefer Peeress, which are just two color patterns in a row at a time. Once, I crocheted a duplicate stitch for a dog coat. IT came out darling. But I have never Knit a duplicate stitch and I think I’ll try it this year.

*Not only did I see that SNL skit, I felt I was IN It!!!!

*Al generously gave me a pair of her interchangeable needles when I was in OOKC last trip. Those darn things unscrewed themselves on me and about a hundred perfect stitches dropped into my lap at once. Never again. I’m not a fan.

*Yes I’ve called the Fire Department about a million times over Fireman’s 30 year career. But, that was not the 911 line. It was their personal phone line at the Fire Department. I did have a bystander call the Fire Department when I was doing CPR on a neighbor. I was so glad to see them coming up the street to take over!

*I know a few people who have had their babies at home. One couple did it for monetary reasons.. Yikes. As a NICU nurse I have trouble with this one. But I try not to judge home birth folks. Really, I try…..
    I don’t always succeed.

*Dark Chocolate Marshmallow Egg every time!

*The last time I rode on a bus was the shuttle from the airport to the car rental. I’m usually so ready to get on with getting home that riding that bus is a stressor for me. Silly , I Know!
