I spent the better part of yesterday’s beautiful record breaking weather knitting the toe of my sock. (on the screened porch) When I was almost finished, I realized my big mistake. The toe decreases were lined up in such a way that my afterthought heel would be perpendicular to my toe.
I took the toe out, gave it a good look see, and realigned it. The good news is the stitches are not so tiny and it was easy to pick them up with a size one needle without dropping any.
Then I reknit the toe. Much better. The big challenge will be the after thought heel part. I’ll wait until I’ve knit the second sock to put both heels in at once.
The sight outside our driveway looks like this. We shall take it a day at a time. The transition from summer to fall is here. I’m thinking of all of you in hurricane Michael’s path. Be safe.
You are zippin’ through them socks, lady. Whose method will you use for afterthought heels?

I’m glad for you that all that needed frogging was the toe 😊
That tree is lovely 😍 We’re noticing the transition from green to glorious colors here also. It’s an amazing time of year 😃💕🍁

How cool you can do an afterthought heel! I can’t use them on my socks or anybody’s in my family because they don’t work well with our genetically awkward feet. I hope everything turns out well on your socks and with the weather you’re having!

I’m glad the toe fix was relatively painless! The socks are going to be very pretty; afterthought heels are not hard-you will do fine! Nice view down the driveway!

So glad you were able to fix the sock without Major Hassles! I’m looking forward to hearing what you think about the afterthought heel… The colors are beginning to change here, but nothing too drastic yet. I imagine the changes will really pick up in the next week or so. I love the changing colors. The bare trees for months and months? Not so much. 🙂

I’m glad you found the error and could fix it.. really pretty yarn. Lovely golden leaves on that tree. Our pin oak leaves are turning red now. ((hugs)), Teresa 🙂

Fall has slipped into Winter in Wyoming – cold and snow most of the day. It’s time to wear wool socks and other wooly knits.

Pretty sock yarn. You’ll have those heels in there in no time!
Not much fall color here yet. The cooler nights are supposed to start tomorrow. I’m thinking next week, we will have some lovely yellows and oranges.
Please note: new email address and new blog

I do like your socks even though afterthought heels aren’t my favorite to make. And I’m glad all you had to rip out was the toe! It’s been raining ever since we arrived in Omaha. But that’s better than the cold that they’ve had at home. I have a feeling all the leaves will be gone off of the trees when we get home.
Many blessings, Betsy

A mix on colors here too. Some trees are changing…more are not. Of those changing, perhaps only half of the tree at most has changed. Weird. I’ve never done an afterthought heel, so am curious to hear what you think. I like knitting a flap and the heel turn always seems magical to me.

No real fall color here yet. It’s all still green and way too hot and humid. I had to give up this morning on the tree clearing. I thought I was going to die.

That hurricane is a whopper; hope all are safe. The colors around here are funny; some trees in full color, others still green. The locusts are dropping their little leaves, and everyone is tracking them into the office…
