A Winner and Warm Mittens

Random number generator picked BETSY to win our first Tuesday Text giveaway.  In addition to the Beaver Slide Dry goods valentine red yarn, she wins the sheepy bookmark, the weighted bookmark, and the pretty butterfly needle sizer.   I’ll get it in the mail this week Betsy!!!

My friend and former nurse co worker Anne, crocheted these thrummed mittens.  My goodness they are warm.  I’ve seen knitted mitts but never crocheted!!  She said the roving was a bit fiddly but she succeeded.  She also crocheted her pups coat.  I love the cabled look of her work.  She’s a very creative person.

Talking about our nursing careers at lunch and reading a friends book, Sweet Reprieve , has me thinking about when I was a nurse.  Sweet Reprieve is a friends father’s story .  Her father was an early liver transplant recipient.  Frank Maier was a reporter by trade, and his writing is wonderful.  I had no intention of reading a book this week, but I couldnt put it down.  I don’t miss the stress, but I’m glad I have the memories and still have dear nurse pals.   It is a great book and I’m told you can get it on Amazon for a dollar.  It made me think of Al of course and her work with organ donation.  So it was a great unexpected read.

  1. Oh my goodness! I never expected to win anything! Thank you so much. I love the yarn and the bookmark.

That book sounds wonderful. My dear brother-in-law had a liver transplant years ago and is now suffering with cancer. They believe it is caused by the anti-rejection drugs. He is so grateful to the donor family. The donated liver has given him almost 20 additional years of life and hopefully many, many more. Our family are HUGE organ donation proponents. I thank Al and am ever grateful for the work that she does.
    Blessings always my friend,

  2. A friend received a kidney one year ago after a five year wait. He still struggles with health issues, but he doesn’t have to have dialysis anymore.

Congratulations to Betsy! I’m starting to see more and more crochet cabled projects. Lovely.

  3. That pup looks very pleased to have such a fancy coat!

BTW, I’m ready to send you the “traveling book” – so please e-mail me your address to: thekittyknitterATverizonDOTnet. 🙂

  4. Congrats to Betsy for the win.. she’s a very deserving person. What does “thrummed” mean? I really admire nurses a lot, it’s neat you have so many friends from that time and keep up with your friendships. ((hugs)), Teresa 🙂

  5. I just got a new book of knit mittens, already have 1 pattern picked out to knit a pair, but do you think I have gotten so far as to get the project going? Nope. But considering I already have 2 pair I hand knit do I really need another pair? Why yes, yes I do! LOL Love the horse love from yesterday. Squee!

  6. Congrats to Betsy! Thanks for sharing Anne’s projects; she certainly is a creative person. Do you think your cats would wear a coat like that? Ginger would put up a huge fight, I think. Don’t you love a book that you can’t put down?

  7. I am so far behind I am missing wonderful giveaways and your lovely blog my friend. Well done by Betsy, she deserves every special thing that comes her way.
