Monday: I Have a Few Questions…

dscf0156

*How lost would you feel without your phone for a day?

*Have you ever had Pavlova?

*Have you ever seen a feral cat colony?

*Are you a loose knitter or a tight knitter?

*Do you play the lottery?

*If someone gave you the yarn, the pattern and a guarantee you’d knit it to perfection, what would you want to knit ?

*What’s your limit for a day of driving on a trip?  (hours? Miles?)

My answers:

I’d be curious without my phone for a day, but I think I could easily do 24 hours without. That being said, I’d want my family to know ahead of time and to call Fireman in the event of an emergency.

I just tried Pavlova and LOVED it.   It is only a few weight watcher points too…

I recently saw a colony of feral or abandoned cats in a wooded preserve.  Joggers were bringing cans of food to them and it warmed my heart. I was assured they were all altered.

Believe It or not I am a very loose knitter.  Given I come from very nervous stock, this is kind of hard to believe, but tis true!

I only play the lottery occasionally and I play a scratch off game only.  When we are on the road I like to buy a ticket when we fill up the gas tank.

I would love love love to knit a log cabin quilt, but garter and I just do not get along well enough.

I can only drive about an hour and a half on highways.  I can sit and knit while Fireman drives for about 12 hours max in a day.  Then I’ve just had it.  I think our max was a 15 hour day between 3 of us sharing the drive and taking turns with shut eye.  It was not fun.

thanks for joining me on Monday q and a

  1. *How lost would you feel without your phone for a day? I think I would be fairly lost. I talk to Hubby on his lunch hour and Mandy and Piper on FaceTime everyday. I would really miss those contacts.

*Have you ever had Pavlova? I don’t think so. What is it? 🙂

*Have you ever seen a feral cat colony? Yes. In Paris and in Japan. There were several in Japan that we saw. At one the local people all brought canned cat food for them in the evening. You could tell that the cats expected itamd were watching for them.

*Are you a loose knitter or a tight knitter? Tight.

*Do you play the lottery? Never have and don’t know how.

*If someone gave you the yarn, the pattern and a guarantee you’d knit it to perfection, what would you want to knit? A cardigan. Maybe the Madewell or a similar one.

*What’s your limit for a day of driving on a trip?(hours? miles?). By myself I’ve driven about 12 hours or 650 miles. With Hubby we’ve done 18 1/2 hours in one day but we don’t enjoy it.

    Have a wonderful Monday!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. Oh Fezzik is such a beauty!! Well, tell him I said handsome.

As always, fun questions Kathy. Here are my answers:

    1. I could easily give up my phone for a day, but like you, I’d want certain people to know it so they could get in touch with Fletch.
    2. Have never had Pavlova, but I did print out a recipe for it a few months ago…then promptly forgot about it. It does sound delicious!
    3. Nope – never seen a feral cat colony.
    4. I’m a fairly tight knitter. When I pay attention (not all the time), I try to loosen it up a bit.
    5. Not regularly, but I will buy a ticket occasionally. Also, we have a lottery pool at work when the jackpot gets enormous. I have to join in that because if I didn’t and everyone else won I’d be really pissed off!!
    6. I think I’d knit a cardigan or a jacket (heavy yarn).
    7. About 7-8 hours max with Fletch and me taking turns driving. We have to stop every 1.5 or 2 hours just to stretch our legs. Gone are the days of driving for 8 or 9 hours without stopping.

    1. And, just as I hit “post comment” an e-mail came through saying the office pool is starting – the Powerball is now up to an estimated $403 million. Think of the yarn we could all buy with that!!

  3. I could do without my phone, especially while on vacation! I like to log off of all internet at times like that. But for safety reasons…i would still want a phone.
I dont think ive ever had a pavlova.
I’ve seen lots of feral cats, but never a colony…although my sister used to work for a vet that neutered/spayed them as a community service.
I am..FINALLY..a middle of the road knitter when it comes to tension. I used to be a tight knitter, and it took a long time to ease up.
Only occasionally play the lottery, and only when it is a huge jackpot. Otherwise, I tend to forget about it.
I would want to knit a sweater for myself. I’ve knit a few for my husband, and my mom, but I am never happy with how the ones for myself turn out, and they get ripped.
Now with a senior (14!) dog, our road trips are maxed out at about the 8 hour mark. We used to go for 12-18 though. Its just as well…as we age along with our dog, our legs and hips do not appreciate the long trips. Breaking every 2 hours def helps.

  4. I could do without my ph easily, Never eaten Pavlova, seen a feral cat colony, I’m a spot on knitter, never do lottery, an irish knit cardigan would be my dream project, an hour drive for me is hard for my hands….DH driving puts our limit at 8 hrs now-a far cry from our gypsy days of pulling 24-30 hour trips!

  5. *How lost would you feel without your phone for a day?
I’m pretty good about it. Dave an I share a phone occasionally (he’s on a pay-as-you-go so I give him mine when he’s out of minutes). There’s always a moment or two where I go to do something and think.. oh right.. I don’t have my phone, but that’s it.
    *Have you ever had Pavlova?
    Nope.
*Have you ever seen a feral cat colony?
Yep. There was one at my grandma’s barn.
*Are you a loose knitter or a tight knitter?
I’m a little on the loose side.
    *Do you play the lottery?
I try to. I don’t play every week – but a couple times a month. I like scratch tickets too.
*If someone gave you the yarn, the pattern and a guarantee you’d knit it to perfection, what would you want to knit ?
Hmm – that’s a tough one. Could crochet count. I’d love to knit this one day, but it has a crocheted skirt – http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bayeux
*What’s your limit for a day of driving on a trip? (hours? Miles?)
I’ve done 11, though I was pretty zonked by the end. I think 6-7 is the ideal max.

  6. How lost would you feel without your phone for a day? Last summer, I was without my phone for a week and survived. I rarely use my phone for calls, but texts are common.
*Have you ever had Pavlova? No, I’ve never even heard of Pavlova
*Have you ever seen a feral cat colony? No
*Are you a loose knitter or a tight knitter? My knitting is neither loose or tight – usually spot on gauge.
*Do you play the lottery? No, but I do enjoy going to the casino to play slots.
*If someone gave you the yarn, the pattern and a guarantee you’d knit it to perfection, what would you want to knit ? Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Pi Shawl
*What’s your limit for a day of driving on a trip? (hours? Miles?) while I’ve driven more, I think 8 hours is a safe time period to drive. If I’m with someone else who can take the wheel for a bit, I’d consider up to 12 hours. For a single driver, over 8 hours is pushing the risk of an accident.

I’ve left home without it and missed it terribly.

    *Have you ever had Pavlova?
I don’t think so but I would like to try it.

*Have you ever seen a feral cat colony?
No.. unless you count our farmyard where we have a few feral cats.

*Are you a loose knitter or a tight knitter?
I try to knit with a medium tension.

    *Do you play the lottery?
My husband does.. we’ve never won.

*If someone gave you the yarn, the pattern and a guarantee you’d knit it to perfection, what would you want to knit ?
An open front cardigan with buttons.

*What’s your limit for a day of driving on a trip? (hours? Miles?)
8 hours is a good amount if you’re on a leisurely trip.

  8. I need to bring Jellybean to visit Fezzik. He is a super star.
    1. I would probably feel weird but I think get used to it although I would worry b/c since my kids are “young” I need to be there for them just in case.
    2. Never had Pavlova but have seen its recipe around Pinterst.
    3. Not a colony but my neighbor has three, outdoor cats that are feral and that used to leave mangled bodies of rodents on our property.
    4. I’m a medium knitter.
    5. No; the husband used to once in a while. Once in a while I give scratch offs as gifts or for a white elephant game.
    6. Ooh, a sweater with a colorworked yoke!
    7. I would say four to six I guess; we haven’t really gone on long roade trips with the crew. Only once was the longest when we drove up near the Oregon border to McBurney Falls to camp w/my brother and SIL (before they had kids) for just a night! Wasn’t that crazy?

  9. 1. I hate phones so I could do it without a problem.
    2. Never had it. Sounds yummy though.
    3. I have one in the woods behind the house. I have socialized four of them but the rest are pretty wild. Mine are all altered too. We trapped them with the help of a feral cat society here. We just lost one of the males to a car last week. I am still heartbroken. He wasn’t one of the nice ones but all the same….
    4. Loose.
    5. No. My mother loved to play and won small amounts quite often.
    6. Some fancy colorwork mittens.
    7. I did 10 hours to Ohio. I did 18 once with Daddio to Connecticut and back.
